I just bought a tanning bed commercial SunTana SunSystem from an individual who used it at home since it was new 10 years ago. About all the previous owner could tell me is that it was wired directly into a box in the wall with two volt lines Black and white , and one ground green.
They had someone run a special line to it years ago. Well, to hook it up at my house, I spliced a wire 10 X 2 plus ground from my dryer line 10, 2 X plus ground, 30 amp breaker for power, but the bed won’t turn on. The breaker is OK, and the dryer still works too. Also, after hooking the bed up I went to the other end of the house and flipped the breaker on, and I thought I heard a pop about 10 seconds later from the end of the house where the bed is.
Not sure if I was imagining that though. Some of my questions are, was it a good idea to splice off of the dryer line for power?

We know that weight of copper of any winding depends upon its length and cross-sectional area. How Transformers Work There are many sizes, shapes and configurations of transformers from tiny to gigantic like those used in power transmission. Some come with stubbed out wires, others with screw or spade terminals, some made for mounting in PC boards, others for being screwed or bolted down. Transformers are composed of a laminated iron core with one or more windings of wire.
They are called transformers because they transform voltage and current from one level to another. An alternating current flowing through one coil of wire, the primary, induces a voltage in one or more other coils of wire, the secondary coils. It is the changing voltage of AC current that induces voltage in the other coils through the changing magnetic field. DC voltage such as from a battery or DC power supply will not work in a transformer.
Only AC makes a transformer work. The magnetic field flows through the iron core. The faster the voltage changes, the higher the frequency. The lower the frequency, the more iron is required in the core for the efficient transfer of power. In the USA, the line frequency is 60 Hertz with a nominal voltage of volts. Other countries use 50 Hertz, volts. Transformers made for 50 Hertz must be a little heavier than ones made for 60 Hertz because they must have more iron in the core.

Trouble Finding Caution Ninety percent of all transformer trouble is caused by permitting the train to lie across the rails and cause a short circuit when it jumps or is knocked off the track. Naturally, if there is a short circuit, the load on the transformer is much greater than it is designed to carry and it may burn out if permitted to remain in that position. They should not be expected to take care of a heavier load. If the transformer is operated on an overload or short-circuit, it will heat up.
We recommend placing your hand on the transformer after 15 or 20 minutes’ use. If it becomes very warm, it is an indication of too heavy a load or a short circuit and should be disconnected at once.
