This is for people who are familiar with electricity and have a voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter and enough common sense not to fry themselves. There are two basic symptoms: First make sure you have put he cover back on the control box if it is 1 HP or less. Start at the pressure switch with the switch wedged open with a non-conductor and measure voltage leg to leg-AND to ground. If you do not have volts unless it is a rare volt motor trace back to the circuit breaker or fuse box. If you have volts to ground on both legs at the pressure switch, you have both legs on the same hot leg and thus zero potential difference between them.

Fender Style Transformer wiring diagrams and specs.

The reason is that the power and output transformers are the heart and soul of a valve guitar amp. These are the most expensive components and the most difficult to replace or repair. Just a chassis with two good transformers is a real prospect, but even a previously working amp with an unserviceable transformer is a nightmare.

You must power a new office in Warehouse 5. To do this, you need a 3kVA transformer (V single-phase to V, 2-wire) for lighting and a receptacle for the coffeepot and computer terminal.

Alabama Hi, First, thanks to hints that were right on from people on this forum a couple months ago I was able to fix a dryer problem, but now for my new problem. I just bought a tanning bed commercial SunTana SunSystem from an individual who used it at home since it was new 10 years ago. About all the previous owner could tell me is that it was wired directly into a box in the wall with two volt lines Black and white , and one ground green.

They had someone run a special line to it years ago. Well, to hook it up at my house, I spliced a wire 10 X 2 plus ground from my dryer line 10, 2 X plus ground, 30 amp breaker for power, but the bed won’t turn on. The breaker is OK, and the dryer still works too. Also, after hooking the bed up I went to the other end of the house and flipped the breaker on, and I thought I heard a pop about 10 seconds later from the end of the house where the bed is.

Not sure if I was imagining that though. Some of my questions are, was it a good idea to splice off of the dryer line for power?

Servicing Fender Amplifiers This is my Fender amp servicing guide. I developed this service guide after many years of servicing Fender Vintage amplifiers. Many Fenders used the same circuit inside with just a few different parts in the same spot on the board. You don’t need a special service guide for each amp to be able to service a Deluxe Reverb, Super Reverb, Pro reverb or any of the vintage fender amps. Before doing any service work on an amplifier, you must make sure the amplifier is unplugged from the wall and the filter caps are drained.

Filter caps can hold a charge that can give you a severe shock.

Transformers serve as voltage step-up or step-down devices where the voltage applied to the input of the transformer is increased or decreased based on the transformer ratio. Transformers are essential to power distribution systems because utility companies must transform the main utility power as required to power households and buildings.

Electrical Power Systems in Buildings Electrical Power Systems in Buildings This article covers electrical distribution systems in buildings at a very basic level. We will discuss the general principles for how electricity is moved from the utility lines to a convenience outlet in a room. The system components vary depending on the size of the building so we will address systems for small and large buildings. Electricity from the Power Company Electric utilities transmit power from the power plant most efficiently at very high voltages.

In the United States, power companies provide electricity to medium or large buildings at 13, volts For small commercial buildings or residential customers, power companies lower the voltage with a transformer on a power pole or mounted on the ground.

Of course, fluctuations in commodity prices have a significant effect. The designer has a certain choice of solutions which can be applied in order to build a transformer with expected rated losses. It is possible to use, for instance, different magnetic materials or change the proportions between the level of magnetic induction and current density. It is, however, important from the point of view of the manufacturer that the transformer with expected parameters will be designed in an optimum way.

It is also possible to vary the ratio of copper to steel quantities. According to an old rule of thumb within the transformer industry, the production cost optimum lies somewhere around a ratio of steel to copper usage of 2: However, it is a fairly flat optimum and, of course, varies with the price ratio of steel to copper. Independently of this, it should be taken into consideration that the operating properties of the transformer also vary when the shares are varied, especially with respect to losses: Holding the current densities in the windings and the magnetic flux density in the core constant, the loss per kilogram of copper or steel, respectively, will be more or less constant.

How to Hook Up a 480V, 208V, or 120V Transformer

For a transformer using a sine or square wave, one needs to know the incoming line voltage, the operating frequency, the secondary voltage s , the secondary current s , the permissible temperature rise, the target efficiency, the physical size one can use, and the cost limitations. Once these factors are known, design can begin. Initial calculations[ edit ] The designer first starts with the primary voltage and frequency.

We know that weight of copper of any winding depends upon its length and cross-sectional area. Again length of conductor in winding is proportional to its number of turns and cross-sectional area varies with rated current. So weight of copper in winding is directly proportional to product of number of turns and rated current of the winding. The saving in cost of the material is of course not in the same proportion. The saving of cost is appreciable when the ratio of transformer is low, that is lower than 2.

Thus auto transformer is smaller in size and cheaper. An auto transformer has higher efficiency than two winding transformer. This is because of less ohmic loss and core loss due to reduction of transformer material. Auto transformer has better voltage regulation as voltage drop in resistance and reactance of the single winding is less. Disadvantages of Using Auto Transformer Because of electrical conductivity of the primary and secondary windings the lower voltage circuit is liable to be impressed upon by higher voltage.

To avoid breakdown in the lower voltage circuit, it becomes necessary to design the low voltage circuit to withstand higher voltage.

Basic Transformer Hook Up Data. Path: Home > Transformer Index > Power > Basic Hook Up Data. To help our customers understand proper connections for dual primary and/or dual secondary transfomers we have prepared 4 examples (below) on a hypothetical dual primary & dual secondary transformer. The key to proper connections is the phasing information.

How Transformers Work There are many sizes, shapes and configurations of transformers from tiny to gigantic like those used in power transmission. Some come with stubbed out wires, others with screw or spade terminals, some made for mounting in PC boards, others for being screwed or bolted down. Transformers are composed of a laminated iron core with one or more windings of wire.

They are called transformers because they transform voltage and current from one level to another. An alternating current flowing through one coil of wire, the primary, induces a voltage in one or more other coils of wire, the secondary coils. It is the changing voltage of AC current that induces voltage in the other coils through the changing magnetic field. DC voltage such as from a battery or DC power supply will not work in a transformer.

Only AC makes a transformer work. The magnetic field flows through the iron core. The faster the voltage changes, the higher the frequency. The lower the frequency, the more iron is required in the core for the efficient transfer of power. In the USA, the line frequency is 60 Hertz with a nominal voltage of volts. Other countries use 50 Hertz, volts. Transformers made for 50 Hertz must be a little heavier than ones made for 60 Hertz because they must have more iron in the core.

Trouble Finding Caution Ninety percent of all transformer trouble is caused by permitting the train to lie across the rails and cause a short circuit when it jumps or is knocked off the track. Naturally, if there is a short circuit, the load on the transformer is much greater than it is designed to carry and it may burn out if permitted to remain in that position. They should not be expected to take care of a heavier load. If the transformer is operated on an overload or short-circuit, it will heat up.

We recommend placing your hand on the transformer after 15 or 20 minutes’ use. If it becomes very warm, it is an indication of too heavy a load or a short circuit and should be disconnected at once.

Wiring your Philippine house. As part of our project to build our house in the Philippines, we had to learn about Philippine residential electrical systems. As with our other writings, we do our best to chronicle our missteps as well as our successes, so that our readers get slice of reality about coming to the Philippines and building a house, not a fairy tale.

The transformer serving our house Our pole-mounted meter. From the standpoint of electrical engineering theory, the Philippine system is similar to that used in the U. From the utility pole to the residence panel box we have one or two load wires and neutral conductor. We have a ground earth provided by the homeowner. Looking at how things were done when we built our Philippine house may help other considering house building in the Philippines to get an idea how things are done here.

The Philippine electricians we have met have been quite professional. Wage rates are negotiable and far more reasonable than in your home country. We hope this essay will be of help in making you a more knowledgeable home builder. This from Schneider Electric helps explain the purpose and nature of each of the three conductors.
